Looking at the map, anyone can easily see how huge Lake Biwa (琵琶湖) is. It occupies a large portion of Shiga Prefecture - a prefecture known for having a big freshwater lake at its center 1. I read online that the lake was named after the biwa (琵琶), a traditional Japanese instrument - because the shape of the lake resembles one. As for me, whenever I zoom out off the map, I can’t help to think that the shape of the lake actually looks more like the shape of Japan itself. So this lake do live up up to its name, as the Japan’s largest lake.
