I thought I would just stop in Kanazawa city because it is the most convenient city to pass through from Fukui on my way to Shirakawa-go. I did not expect Kanazawa to have such attractive charms of its own. Just by exiting the main gate of Kanazawa Station, I was already surprised by the large Tsuzumimon Gate (鼓門) – a truly unique monument inspired by a musical instrument called Tsudzumi (鼓) drum. The more I explored Kanazawa, the more it clicked: this town is a true haven for artisans, full of art and heritage, a perfect blend of the past with a modern touch 1 2 3. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to take many photos of the city because of the rainy weather.
