To some of my hiker friends who know me personally, they’ve probably heard me say at least once how much I miss the Karasawa Cirque, a mountain area near Kamikōchi. They’ve also probably heard me rant about how I’ve tried several times to hike Mount Shirouma-dake in the past, only to have my plans cancelled by typhoons. For me, this mountain - Tonodake - feels somewhat very similar to hiking in the Nagano mountain alps 1. It has long ridgelines where you can enjoy sweeping views of the mountains in Kanagawa when taking the Yabitsu trail, and even the rocky terrain reminds me of those alpine trails in Nagano 2. The best part is that it’s just about two hours away from my home.
